Letterpress printing is a form of printing where the raised surface of letters or artwork is inked and then pressed into paper.  A custom prepared plate of the design (whether it be the wording for your invitation, or a floral drawing, or your return address for your envelopes) has to be created first, and then a printing press is used to press the ink into the paper against the plate.  Typically thicker cardstock – or even cotton paper – will be used for this to make the look and texture of the finished stationery even more obvious.
