Flowers by Janie is a boutique flower studio specializing in creating florals that emanate the natural, romantic, and timeless feel of lush English gardens. Based in Calgary, Alberta; Flowers by Janie serves clients across Calgary, Canmore, Banff, and the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Our passion lies in designing florals that complement each venue, enhancing its ambiance with organic beauty. Our designs are heavy with natural flowers, displaying a wide array of colour palettes to reflect the story behind each of our clients and their events. We design with lots of texture, dimension, and use a variety of seasonal blooms to create our signature garden style European-esque designs that are both artful and inspiring.

Fun facts

What do you consider your style to be?

Colourful, artful and inspired by English Gardens. Our design is more flower heavy than greenery heavy and we love using lots of different flower varieties and textures in our designs.

What are your favorite kinds of couples to work with?

Couples that love flowers as much as we do! It's also so wonderful to work with clients that trust us completely to execute their overall floral vision and listen to our advice for special statement designs that will be really impactful to the overall mood of the wedding day.

How did you get started in the wedding industry?

My last year in high school I did a work experience program at a local flowershop and fell in love with floral design. I knew pretty much immediately that one day I would be a wedding florist with my own studio. In 2011 I started Flowers by Janie with my husband in his home town of La Paz, Bolivia (South America) before moving to Calgary in 2012.

Do you travel for clients? If so, where?

Travel is always welcome! We are based in Calgary and are frequently setting up for weddings in Canmore, Banff, and Lake Louise. We've also traveled to Golden and Fernie BC, Jasper, Alberta, and many other towns and cities in Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia.

Where do you find your design inspiration?

Travel (even local travel during the pandemic). Interior Design magazines/blogs, Colour also inspires us.

What are your favorite activities to do in The Rockies?

EAT! There are so many good restaurants in The Rockies with amazing local cuisine!

What is your favorite part about a wedding?

Seeing how excited the couple is with their flowers, from the bouquets to the overall ceremony and reception decor. Seeing their faces light up with joy is the reason we do what we do!
