1. What are Common Mistakes Brides Make When Choosing a Hair and Makeup Artist?

  • Choosing an artist based solely on price. While budget is important, it’s more crucial to find a hair and makeup artist who matches your style and can confidently deliver your desired look. Adjust your budget elsewhere if needed, your wedding photos last a lifetime, so you should love your look in all of them.

  • Not reviewing the artist’s contract. Always ensure your artist has a contract and read it thoroughly so everyone is on the same page.

2. What are Must-Have Questions Every Bride Should Ask?

Here is a short list of questions to ask your hair and makeup artist:
Do they have a contract?
Every Bride should ask about a vendor’s process and review their contract. Make sure that you are protected and that they are as well!
Are they qualified?
If their qualifications aren’t listed on their website, ask them! With your inspiration, review their instagrams and portfolios to see if they have photos of work similar to your inspiration. If you’re unable to find some, ask them! Chances are they might have some that have not been posted.
If you’re unsure about which look to choose for your wedding hair and makeup, you guessed it, ask!
At Bridal by Caitlin we have been specializing in bridal for years. We understand the do’s and don’ts, the trends, and which styles compliment you most. We are happy to help with suggestions and guidance.

Bridal By Caitlin FAQ’s

1. General Questions

How far in advance should I book?
Book 6–12 months ahead, especially for weddings in Utah’s busy season (April–October)1.

Do you specialize in bridal, or offer other services?
Bridal is the main focus, but services also include pageant, set styling, and some men’s offerings1.

Do you work with a team for large parties?
Yes, a team of artists is available, and brides are matched to the stylist who best fits their needs. Large bridal parties can be accommodated.

2. Experience and Style

Can you show me examples of your previous work, especially bridal looks?
Most of our work can be found on our website and our instagram! If you have a specific look that you’re not seeing, ask us and we can send some extras!

Do you have experience with my hair type/skin tone?
We are trained in all types and tones. Depending on your type and tone we would love to discuss how much experience we have with your specifications.

How would you describe your style or approach to hair and makeup?
We specialize in natural bridal glam. However our approach is totally custom to you as the bride. At the end of the day, this is our job and our job is to give you the look you want to walk around all day in!

Are you comfortable replicating specific looks I have in mind?
Replication is dependent on so many variables. We will do an in depth consultation to understand your wants and needs. From there we will talk through a game plan to make sure we are on the same page. Once the look is complete we can then make minor adjustments to get the look exactly how you want!

3. The Trial

Do you offer a hair and makeup trial? If so, what is included, and how far in advance should I schedule it?
We do! We call our trials previews. Simply because we are previewing what your wedding day look will be. During our preview we really dive into what you’re looking for. Once we have a game plan we will then execute your look. Once we’ve finished, we talk through the things you love and the things you hope to change. If they are minor adjustments we will try them out then. If more than that we make in depth notes for the wedding day.

We like to schedule this appointment 6-8 weeks in advance ideally. There is often flexibility because many of our brides are from out of state.

What should I bring to the trial, such as inspiration photos or accessories?

  • For the trial, wear a top that is similar in color and style to your wedding dress.
  • Bring any accessories (earrings, necklaces, hairpieces, veils, etc.)
  • Bring your extensions if your look requires them.
  • Inspiration photos are SO helpful in helping us speak the same language. Full glam can mean many different things to different people so this gives us a reference point.
  • Lastly if you are opting for just hair services or just makeup, come with the other done similarly to how you will have it for your wedding day.

What happens if I’m not satisfied with the trial look?
Our goal during this appointment is to be on the same page for your wedding with a look that you love. If you aren’t satisfied afterwards we want you to go home and look at the details of your look. Communicate with us what your thoughts are. That way we can get an understanding of what you’re not loving so that we can make those adjustments for the big day!

4. Products and Hygiene

What brands of products do you use? Are they long-lasting and camera-friendly?
All of our products are tested personally before adding those new products to our kits. We test for sensitivities, how long the last, and the way that they wear. We use mostly high end makeup brands and occasionally a few nyx butter gloss’. You can find brands such as Charlotte Tilbury, Huda Beauty, Makeup by Mario, Anastasia, Natasha Denona, etc. Everything we use is specific for camera ready brides and to last all day!

Do you offer cruelty-free, hypoallergenic, or vegan product options?
Most of our products fall into these categories! A few of our products are not. If you have specific requests we will work with you to help accommodate your needs.

How do you ensure hygiene and cleanliness in your tools and products?
All of our tools and products are cleaned before and after each client. For products like mascara and lipstick for example, we will not use the applicators directly on our clients. We will use a palette, brushes, and disposable tools. Lip and eyeliners are sharpened and disinfected before and after each application as well.

5. Pricing and Logistics

What are your rates, and what’s included in your pricing?

Our pricing starts at $800 for all Saturday dates. This includes 4 services for wedding day only. We typically do custom quotes. We take in consideration: preview appointments, travel, early morning start times, and amount of services. When you inquire you will receive an email to fill out a questionnaire. Once that is complete we send over a custom quote!

Do you charge additional fees for travel, early start times, or holidays?

Yes we do! Travel fees are calculated based on location, early mornings are based on start times, and holidays are for major holidays and state holidays.

What’s your payment policy, and do you require a deposit?

Yes! All of our policies can be found in our contract which is sent with your quote! We require a 50% non-refundable deposit with the remainder due 2 weeks before the big day!

What is your cancellation or refund policy?

In our cancellation policy our 50% retainer is non-refundable after booking. Brides can cancel or reschedule up to 30 days in advance. After 30 days before the event the remainder is non-refundable.

Are gratuities included in the final price?

We do not include gratuity and we never expect it! Of course we are very grateful for your monetary appreciation always!

6. Wedding Day Details

How much time will you need to get me and my bridal party ready?

We typically schedule 30-45 minutes per service per bridesmaid service and 45-60 minutes per bridal service.

Do you create a schedule to ensure everyone is ready on time?

Yes! We create a color coated timeline with each individual’s time and service and who their stylist will be!

Are you available to stay for touch-ups or to change my look for the reception?

Yes! We absolutely offer this for our brides! As much as we don’t anticipate you needing touch ups we will be there every step of the way for you if needed! In your inquiry let us know this is something you would like and we can accommodate!

6. Emergencies

What happens if you’re unable to make it on my wedding day due to an emergency?

We have a team of incredible artists! In all of the years we have been doing this, we have not had 1 wedding we were unable to make. This is our pride and our passion and we know how incredibly important this day is for you all.

Do you have backup artists or a plan in place for unforeseen circumstances?

Yes! Our team is amazing! We are there for you through any unforeseen circumstance!
