Whether your wedding is in close proximity to your hometown or your planning a destination wedding weekend in the Rocky Mountains, you’ll most likely have out of town guests who need a place to stay during your wedding festivities. We’re here to help guide you through the ins and outs of wedding hotel room blocks! Read on for what you need to know about wedding hotel room blocks and for our favorite hotels, resorts and venues in the Rockies that offer hotel room blocks.
What is a Hotel Room Block?
A hotel room block is a set number of rooms available at a hotel or resort reserved for your guests to stay at during your wedding weekend. Most hotels offer discounted rates for larger group reservations and work with you or your wedding planner directly to reserve the room block at a fixed rate. Once your rooms and the discounted rate are locked in, your guests can go directly through the hotel to reserve and pay for their room during your wedding weekend celebration.
How to Pick the Best Hotel for Your Guests?
Most couples pick hotels closest to their venue so guests will not have to worry about an excessive amount of travel to and from the venue. Your wedding venue or wedding planner might have hotel recommendations based off of what was popular for past couples, or your wedding venue might offer accommodations on-site. Our top tip for picking a hotel for your wedding guests would be one that can accommodate a larger group comfortably, is close to your wedding venue and will work with you in creating a discounted hotel room block package.
How Far in Advance Should You Book a Hotel Room Block?
We would recommend booking your hotel room block as early as possible! Once your wedding venue is booked and your save the dates are sent out, you are locked in to a wedding location. Reserving your hotel room block far in advance ensures that your guests who like to plan early will have a place to book once they’ve solidified their travel plans. The earlier the better!
Who Pays for the Room in a Hotel Room Block?
Most wedding guests will pay for their own hotel room from the room block, but you might wish to pay for your out-of-town guests’ stay if the group is more intimate. The hotel or resort you pick to book your hotel room block through will sometimes require an initial deposit for rooms, so make sure to look through the contract thoroughly to ensure you know what is required from you or your guests payment-wise.
