“They say true love comes when you least expect it and as cliche as it sounds that’s exactly how it happened the night Brad and I met. I bailed on what would have been our first date because I wasn’t sure how I felt about him, which meant I missed my opportunity to see him for the next few months. He was working out of state at the time and was gone more than he was home but he didn’t give up on getting to know me as we talked over endless phone calls, text messages and FaceTimes. It didn’t take long for me to realize I could see a future with him and 3 years later I was the one telling him we should get married. Almost 5 years later, we finally said “I do” with a shotski of tequila to unite us for the rest of our lives. Brad and I both live in Alaska now but we have family that live in different parts of Idaho so having our wedding there made the most sense. I don’t like being the center of attention so I didn’t want a big wedding and we wanted the day to be about us, our love and our future together without stress. We decided on an intimate wedding with 25 of our closest family and friends and rented cabins on the Salmon River for the days surrounding our wedding. We love the mountains and the scenery Stanley has to offer so it was the perfect backdrop for our special day. What we didn’t know was how temperamental the weather in the Sawtooths could be – we experienced smoke, sun, rain and wind. We didn’t pick our ceremony spot until the day before and the morning of our wedding the smoke was so thick I was worried you wouldn’t be able to see the mountains from where we had chosen. Thankfully, the smoke cleared and turned to blue skies, sun and 90 degree weather. Immediately following our ceremony and photos, a rain and dust storm picked up and had us all running for cover in our cars. Luckily it cleared again in time for dinner and the rest of the evening was great weather. The timing was perfect and hey, rain on your wedding day is supposed to be good luck right? The reception was on the lawn area between the cabins we had rented and Emily, our planner, made my dreams come true with the most beautiful minimalistic and timeless tablescape; I chose lots of white and neutral colors to let the beauty of our surroundings take hold. We spent the rest of the night dancing, laughing and talking about how perfect our day was. It was truly a dream come true and I wish we could relive that day over and over again.”
