First Look: Inside 9 Acres Event Barn, Utah Valley’s Newest Wedding Venue

Every so often a venue opens that makes you rethink what a barn wedding can look like in Utah Valley. 9 Acres Event Barn is one of them.

Set on generations of family farmland just outside Provo, with the Wasatch Range filling the horizon in nearly every direction, 9 Acres pairs the warmth of a working farm with the polish of a purpose built event space. There are timber beams and a grand staircase inside, three garden ceremony sites outside, and a herd of horses that are very much part of the experience rather than scenery in the background.

We got our first real look at the space during the venue’s recent open house, styled top to bottom by Christy Sain of Union Design Events alongside a vendor team that went all in. Here is what we found.

The Story Behind the Barn

9 Acres sits on land that has been in the Finch family for generations, and that history is not incidental. Owners Judy and Barry built the venue with a specific idea in mind: they did not want to hand couples a building. They wanted to hand them an experience.

That vision is what pulled Christy Sain in early. She first met Judy and Barry while the barn was still under construction, and the conversation about rustic elegance and hospitality set the tone for everything that followed. Her approach to the open house design was, in her words, go big or go home.

The Design: Rustic Elegance With Modern Romantic Details

Christy built the open house around a palette of stone, birch, gray, wine, golden moss, sage, fern, and midnight pine. Organic and textural, but never rough. Romantic without tipping into precious.

The result read as three distinct design stories under one roof. A head table in deep merlot velvet with black ruffle chargers and ivory china. A second table in warm spice velvet with gold chargers and gold flatware. A third leaning cool and coastal with coral glass china, avocado toile napkins, and cream benches in place of chairs. Two full lounge vignettes anchored the room, one in moss and cream with a cowhide rug, the other in cognac leather and champagne fur.

Susie at Wish Blossom Flowers was Christy’s partner in translating the vision into florals, and the collaboration shows. Blooms climbed the grand staircase, framed the bar, and softened every hard timber line in the building.

Inside the Barn

The interior does the heavy lifting for couples planning around Utah’s unpredictable shoulder seasons. It seats up to 250 guests for a seated dinner and holds up to 300 for a flowing reception, with 200 chairs available for indoor use.

What comes included is genuinely generous:

  • Eight farmhouse tables, fifteen 60 inch rounds, and six bistro tables
  • A large custom bar
  • A spacious bridal suite with private bathroom, plus a groom’s lounge with its own bathroom
  • A gathering space with a fireplace
  • A loft viewing area with a grand staircase, which is a gift for photographers and for grand entrances
  • A preparation kitchen and four bathrooms
  • Two room layouts plus a room flip, with setup of tables and chairs handled by the venue
  • Heating, air conditioning, premium indoor sound, WiFi, three TVs, and two wireless microphones
  • One hour with the FotoMaster Mirror X photo booth
  • A host or hostess on site

The room flip matters more than it sounds. It means you can hold your ceremony inside, send guests to cocktails, and come back to a fully reset reception space without hiring a separate crew to make it happen.

The Grounds

Outside is where 9 Acres earns its name. Three garden ceremony sites sit across the property, The Bridge, The Arbor, and The Arch, each with the mountains as a permanent backdrop. The lawns are open enough to hold real scale. At the open house, one lawn held a ceremony for 80 in modern curved chairs with a vineyard wood cabana lounge alongside it. Another held a second ceremony setup, a lounge, and three food stations under black trimmed cafe umbrellas.

Having three distinct sites is more useful than it sounds. It means the light, the backdrop, and the guest count can all be matched to the ceremony you actually want rather than the one spot the venue happens to have.

Also included: a large private parking lot, a large patio, yard games, and, as the venue puts it plainly, beautiful places for photography.

The Horses

This is the part no other barn venue in Utah Valley can copy.

9 Acres offers horse and carriage rides for the bride’s presentation or the sendoff, carriage presentations for bridesmaids, and pony cart presentations for flower girls. Guests and family can book two hour carriage rides, pony cart rides, or pony rides during the reception. Couples can add a 30 minute horse and carriage photo shoot or a 30 minute session with the farm animals.

Christy has a groom this October who will be entering his ceremony on horseback. Once you know that is possible, it is hard to unsee the potential.
