The Wright was built to provide a community gathering place that was family friendly as a pose to the saloons and brothels of the time. Ed Wright’s wife, Letitia, wanted to improve Ouray’s environment for their daughter and bring a Thespian experience to the mining town. Today, the Wright still promotes a sense of community gathering and entertainment for Ouray. According to the Wright’s Executive Director, Alyssa Preston, the Wright and its staff is “Renovating for the future, while preserving the past”.
