Jo McGowan Weddings | Denver Colorado Wedding Photographer
Artful Imagery for Effortless Love Stories
Wedding photographer with an editorial eye and a documentary soul. Based in Colorado, I’ve been photographing love for over a decade, and it never feels routine. Every celebration carries its own energy—an undercurrent of emotion, movement, and meaning—that pulls me in each time. I’m inspired by the authenticity that surfaces when people feel fully themselves and fully present, and my goal is to create images that are as artful as they are true to you.

Love Notes
My fiancé and I hired Jo to do our engagement photos and we loved her so much we asked her to photograph our wedding! We cannot say enough good things about her. Jo, from the very start, was a great communicator and so easy to work with. She really takes the time and effort to get to know you and makes sure the photos are exactly how you want them while remaining true to her incredible eye and talent for a natural and effortless, intimate vibe. Everyone we showed fell in love with her and the photos. I We just had the best time with Jo, the shoot was memorable and fun and we are SO excited for her to shoot the most special day of our lives!

I don't know which to gush about more, Jo's skills as a photographer in her ability to capture nuanced and intimate moments that take you right back, or what a beautiful soul she is. She went above and beyond for us on our elopement day, and we will forever cherish her and the photos she took for us. If you want someone who emotionally invests herself in you and your love (and is great with dogs!), Jo's your girl!!

From our very first conversation to the big day itself, Jo was nothing short of incredible.
As an out-of-town bride, I was planning my wedding from a distance, and Jo went above and beyond, from scouting locations for our family / bridal portraits to helping design our day's timeline. She was always communicative, kind, and happy to answer questions throughout the planning process.
On our big day, Jo was a complete pro who brought a profoundly calming presence. She made everyone feel incredibly at ease, working tirelessly and with remarkable generosity to ensure she captured every shot we had hoped for and so much more!! Beyond her incredible talent behind the camera, Jo proved to be an expert at navigating family dynamics with grace, making everyone feel comfortable and cooperative in our requested shots. We were also so impressed with her skill when it came to our dogs where she effortlessly managed to get them to pose for portraits, creating some of our most cherished and fun memories of the day.
By the end of the day, Jo felt less like a vendor and more like a reliable friend—someone we could trust completely to not only document our day but also to make it a more fun and stress-free experience.
We’ve only seen our sneak peeks so far, and we’re already obsessed. If you’re getting married, call Jo first! I promise you won’t regret it.

Fun facts
What do you consider your style to be?
My style is where an editorial eye meets a documentary soul. I focus on candid, emotional moments while weaving in portraits that feel natural and artful. This balance creates photographs that are elevated yet authentic—heirloom images that not only show how your day looked, but bring you back to how it truly felt.
What are your favorite kinds of couples to work with?
I love working with vibrant couples who see their wedding as more than a production—it’s about love, connection, and celebrating with their favorite people. They value both the beauty and the emotion of the day, and they trust me to create images that are beautifully crafted yet, above all, true.
What are your favorite activities to do in The Rockies?
Give me our pickup truck, my husband, and our dog in front of a campfire, and that’s about as good as it gets for me. In the summer, I love camping under the stars, and in the winter you’ll find me shredding the slopes with pals. Add in a stop at a good local brewery, and I’m in my happy place.
What is your favorite part about a wedding?
A wedding day brings out the most beautiful parts of humanity. It’s rare to have all your favorite people in one place just to celebrate love, and I honestly feel for every part of it—the nerves and excitement of getting ready, the tender ways couples honor their loved ones, and of course, the dance floor that turns into an absolute rager once the sun goes down.
