I imagine myself as somewhere between Jennifer Lopez in ‘The Wedding Planner’ and Christine Sinclair in ‘Bride Wars’—obsessed with creating spaces and cultivating relationships that entice moments. With numerous years in interior design, event details and guest satisfaction steam-rolling this obsession. I blend knowledge, intense passion, desire to work (and a sparkling personality) in my duties; aiming to provide peace for my couples, efficiency in my work, and happiness to everyone I encounter. Side Note From Amy: A while ago I was told by a couple that the biggest benefit to hiring me was: I was one person they knew was 100% showing up for them and their happiness. Fun facts
What are your favorite kinds of couples to work with?
Couples who are unapologetically themselves. Whether that be an obsession with Nickelback songs, plastering their dog on every piece of stationary, or a non-negotiable highland cow at cocktail hour – I love a quirky couple! Not only does this make designing fun and the event beautifully, solely theirs but it also helps me get to know them easier so I can make decisions on the day-of that fits them and their priorities.
How did you get started in the wedding industry?
That is a long (and potentially tedious) story. In short, besides a childhood obsession with wedding based movies, I started my first job with a catering company and stayed for nearly 10 years, then every job that followed immersed me further into weddings (bartending, dress sales, venue management, event decoration, design school, etc.) – totalling decades of combined experience! Though, I suppose, the catalyst for this company came one night when I was closing a wedding – I noticed the bride running around all night to make sure details were taken care of, and around 12:00am began packing boxes to be out in time. It bothered me... and that little moment sat with me for several days until it spiralled and an idea formulated (with the help of a glass of wine) exploded to become Honey & Oak!
Where do you find your design inspiration?
Moments! I love working through a screenshot or a feeling that the couple can’t get out of their head, bringing it to life for a picture-perfect moment that we can inspire everything else around. For some that will be smiling at a sweetheart table engulfed by candlelight, laughing over a sparkling champagne tower, or the pause when their eyes meet at either end of an aisle draped in white. It will be different for every couple but everything else falls together pretty quickly from there – then thanks to wonderful resources such as RMB, Pinterest and social media we can bring to reality!
What are your favorite activities to do in The Rockies?
Camping – walking through the trees with my dogs, laughing by the campfire with my family, and snuggled up with my partner to read in the sunshine. I’m especially excited for this coming camping season to take out our old-made-new camper we’ve been renovating over the past year!
