Love Notes

“Elsa is hands down the best. If you aren’t from Durango you may not realize how laid back the process came seem- that’s just how we operate on Mountain time. She had every detail down pat, my wedding was the stuff dreams are made of! My parents (who live in Tennessee and have high expectations) could not believe how wonderful everything was. They even pulled me aside and told me how Elsa was worth every penny and then some! All I had to do was OK things and show up on the big day. I can not recommend her enough, I would give ten stars if that were an option!”

– Danielle

“I absolutely loved working with Elsa! With a destination wedding at the remote Dunton Hot Springs I was only able to meet her via Skype. With only this call, a few inspiration images and an email thread, I let Elsa run with my ideas. I was just beside myself with joy on my wedding day. She made our reception the most enchanting space, leaving no detail unturned. My vision was realized and so much more, she really injected so much of what my Husband and I wanted out of our day that it felt all the more intimate and special. To accomplish this work Elsa was extremely reliable and enthusiastic, and she worked seamlessly with the Dunton crew day-of. I wish I could do it all over again with Elsa and the rest of my dream team!”

– Anabelle

“Elsa made our wedding near Durango absolutely beautiful. She understood our style and worked within our budget to create an event that was even more special than we imagined. She was warm, reassuring, responsive, and great at adapting to last minute surprises. When our florist fell through a few weeks before the event, she offered to buy flowers wholesale and do the arrangements herself; if we’d known how great this would turn out we would have asked her to take this on from the get-go. Although we initially weren’t sure we would need to hire an event planner, working with Elsa turned out to be one of the best decisions we made in planning our wedding.”

Fun facts

What do you consider your style to be?

With an emphasis on subtle elegance and an organic and natural aesthetic - my design style evokes feelings of warmth, intimacy and balance and always strives to find an authentic representation and yearning from my clients. My design palette is always one working with the natural environment and venue and then aspects and accents that represent my clients... which can be classic, bohemian or very contemporary and modern.

Where do you find your design inspiration?

Travel and exploration of new landscapes and cultural centers has and will always be an engine for inspiration, as well as architecture, gardens and fashion. Being rooted in nature and art, I love to explore the raw nature of the southwest where I live in Durango, CO and the surrounding Four Corners of New Mexico, Utah and Arizona. As a romantic and an artist, I've always been inspired by light, color, texture and natural beauty. My design work always starts with a feeling or an exploratory question of trying to capture the essence and feeling of what natural beauty exudes and invites.

How did you get started in the wedding industry?

Heirlooms was born after getting married myself and collecting everything with my mother for my intimate wedding in Northern Michigan at our local lighthouse and a friend's historic barn. I moved all my "heirlooms" from Michigan to Colorado in 2012 and started helping friends and friends of friends produce, coordinate and style their weddings. My business grew in an organic way, learning all the ins-and-outs of running a business and planning and designing weddings on the ground. That was 8 years and over 150 weddings ago now!

Do you travel for clients? If so, where?

Yes - I love to travel for love stories and editorial work. I mostly travel regionally (Telluride, Santa Fe, Taos, Moab, Amangiri, Dunton Hot Springs, Ouray and Silverton), but would love to do more work in other beautiful places!
