How did the venue become a wedding venue?
Elk Heart at Pine became a wedding venue long before it officially had a name. The ranch had always been a gathering place for our family, and when both of our sons chose to be married here—followed by two of their friends—it became clear that the land held something special. Each celebration felt natural and effortless, as if the prairie itself was meant to host moments like these. After hearing guests repeatedly say, “This is the perfect place for a wedding,” we began shaping the ranch with intention. We built the timber‑frame barn, refined the ceremony site, and created spaces that honor the landscape while offering comfort and warmth. What started as family weddings grew into Elk Heart at Pine—a place where celebrations still feel personal, grounded, and deeply connected to the land.
What is your favorite part about a wedding?
My favorite moment is the one right after the vows, when the couple turns toward their guests as husband and wife for the first time. There’s a joy in that instant that feels pure and unfiltered — a mix of relief, excitement, and the quiet realization that their forever has just begun. Watching that shift, seeing their faces light up, and feeling the energy ripple through everyone present is something I never get tired of. It’s a moment that reminds me why we do this.
