Fun facts

What do you consider your style to be?

I consider my planning style to be approachable and easy going but with a hyper sensitivity to details - you should see my event timelines. I like to plan weddings that are unique and incorporate intentional elements that elevate a guest's experience. When problems arise (there is always something), I approach the issue level headed because I'm confident that there is always a solution. I don't want just the couple and their guests walking away from a wedding feeling amazing, I want that for all the vendors involved too. I am a team player, hardworking and detailed oriented.

How did you get started in the wedding industry?

I began my career in the service industry as a dishwasher at my parent's restaurant on San Juan Island, WA. From there, I worked every job within the food and beverage industry, from bartending to cooking. However, it was working events that intrigued me the most. I quickly realized that becoming an event planner was what I wanted to do as a career. After college and several internships within the events industry, I headed to Orlando, FL to work for The Walt Disney Company. It was here that my desire to plan events was solidified. Shortly after Disney, I ended up headquartered in the nations capital where I planned and coordinated weightless flights for Zero Gravity Corporation. I spent seven years traveling the country planning and coordinating zero gravity flights for individuals, Fortune 500 companies and celebrities alike. Some of the more memorable flights included those for; Make A Wish Foundation, NASA research, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, and the first Weightless Wedding. After my time in the space tourism industry, I found my way back to food and beverage as an Event Designer for a catering company in Denver, CO where I sharpened my event coordinating skills. It was also here that I gained an appreciation and love for planning weddings. Soon after my transition into the wedding industry, I found myself relocating to Colorado's Western Slope. My husband and I were looking for a different pace of life and we found it in Ouray, CO. Our love for the outdoors, backpacking, hiking and winter sports made the San Juan Mountains the perfect area to begin our new chapter. It has also proven to be an amazing location to raise our two daughters, Marilynn and Austine.

What are your favorite activities to do in The Rockies?

Before becoming a mother, my husband and I would explore the wilderness by backpacking to remote mountain locations. We'd traverse beautiful landscapes and climb mountain peaks including a handful of 14ers. During the snowier months, skiing and snowboarding were our way of enjoying those same wonders. Now with two small children, we've had to recalibrate. Introducing The Rockies to our children has brought on a new joy. Watching my eldest daughter run through a field of wildflowers and wade in mountain creeks brings me so much happiness. I'm sure we'll return to more adventurous outings as our girls get older, but for now a small walk to a nearby waterfall or roasting the perfect s'mores by a campfire is just perfect!

What is your favorite part about a wedding?

It's hard to identify a favorite part about a wedding. There are many moments that bring me happiness on a wedding day. I love seeing a wedding party in their slippers and robes thriving off the excitement of what the day has in store. That moment when parents see their children dressed and ready to begin a life with their spouse is such a sweet one. I get a kick out of couples' facial expressions when they lock eyes after walking back down the aisle post "I do." Watching a catering team execute a phenomenal menu for 150+ guests is a thrill. Getting a glimpse of a couple sneaking off for a quiet moment during the festivities is a wonderful feeling. That point in the night when everyone is on the dance floor singing along to an amazing band makes me join in. And watching the lights being turned off at the end of a successful wedding brings a level of satisfaction that fuels me for the next one.
