Fearless elopements & intimate weddings on the uncommon trail, for couples in the Canadian Rockies & worldwide
I’m Melissa, your third wheel, new best friend and adventure elopement photographer!
With all the places on this gorgeous planet to see and explore, I would be honoured to help you find the perfect off the beaten path location for the moment you share your vows during your intimate wedding or elopement!
I believe that adventure is for every one; that the best times are when we embrace our passions. When we get our feet dirty and our hair is messy in the wind. So let’s run away together, hike up a mountain, go on a road trip, camp at a lake, chase the sun and the stars and let nature inspire our beings.
Just be your true soulful selves, have fun and let me remind you how to be wild at heart, and together we’ll find the uncommon trail.
“Melissa followed my fiancé and I all the way to Costa Rica! Not only is she a super sweet, fun-loving professional but she is an AMAZINGLY talented photographer! She captured EXACTLY what I had envisioned for our engagement session. We had sneak peaks of our images SO QUICKLY and our entire album was sent to us in a super timely manner. We’ve already booked her for our Elopement in Banff too! Cannot wait to see what amazingness she can capture there!”

What do you consider your style to be? I do things a little bit differently than other photographers, while I offer suggestions to help plan the best day ever, I do minimal "set poses". The majority of my work is in-the-moment, photo journalism style. My editing is natural & true to colour, with a little punch to bring your memories to life. The day is not about your family, or your friends - it's about the two of you designing the best day imaginable from start to finish!! I just want to tell your story so that you can communicate this amazing experience to everyone back home that you care about whether that's your family or your friends and that you two can look back on this year after year and remember and not forget a single moment of this amazing day that the two of you chose to really make it about the two of you, conquer an adventure together and to get married.
What are your favorite kinds of couples to work with? I absolutely love the Canadian Rockies and my favourite things include camping, hiking and road trips through the alpine passes. If you're lucky, you'll spot some wildlife, explore caves, dive into glacial lakes and make memories to last a lifetime. I am so passionate that I get to live here and do these things often, with sustainability and Leave No Trace principals always in mind. I am driven by the thrill of adventure, honest emotions & wild laughter! I love nothing more than documenting the story of two people who love each other and aren’t afraid to show it! Your elopement is the day you are married; it is still a wedding and should not be treated any less than that, or like an all-day photo shoot. We all know the best moments are the ones in between, the laughs, stolen kisses and windswept emotions, and that’s what I am here for! If this sounds like you and your partner, we might just be a great match to connect and work together!
Do you travel for clients? If so, where? As an experience traveler, I have so many places I want to photograph elopements and couples in! My top two dream locations are Torres del Paine, Patagonia & Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park, Italy. My bucket list is comprised of places I have either travelled to and fell in love with, or have had my eye on for years. The best part about this list is that it's just a small selection - the sky is the limit and I am SO DOWN to go anywhere, especially sites rich in heritage! I've trekked in the Himalayas on a 35 day yoga & meditation retreat; lived in a tent on the top of a mountain in the Andes working on an archaeological dig; explored the glacial caves and waterfalls in Iceland; stood above the Cloud Forest in Costa Rica; helped make -and sip- wine on the Amalfi Coast; and so so much more! With all the places on this gorgeous planet to see and explore, I would be honoured to help you find the perfect off the beaten path location for the moment you share your vows during your intimate wedding or elopement!
What is your favorite part about a wedding? My absolute favourite part of any wedding day is the moment after a couple shares their vows with one another. Sometimes in a traditional wedding, this is as short as a single breath! There is so much anticipation leading up to this very exchange and I feel like the moment right after is a swirl of emotions that needs to be honoured in a special way. Often my couples are alone on a mountain top exchanging vows with the rising sun and I love to give my couples a few minutes alone immediately after their ceremony soak in the experience with each other, however that looks.
