Beautiful. Whimsical. Cake

Bluebird Sweets got its start in 2013 from a contest held at my former workplace. We had a cake contest and I won doing the “rainbow inside” cake you see all over Pinterest. I had no aspirations to be a cake decorator at the time, but when my first son was born, I wanted him to have an over the top cake for his first birthday. I was laid off at 6 months pregnant, so buying a custom cake was not an option for me.

After many nights of toil, my son’s cake came out better than I ever imaged and a passion was born. Sugar artistry has given me a creative outlet and provided me rich opportunities to meet new people and make their events even more special. Better yet, it provides me the opportunity to work from home and be there, day to day, for my own three littles.

What do you consider your style to be?

Whimsical, outdoorsy, sculptural, textural are all elements that have been used to describe my style. I love bringing the look of natural elements into my cakes, such as wood effects, stone, floral and much more. I also love gravity defying designs.

What are your favorite kinds of couples to work with?

Couples that want their cake to reflect their personalities instead of wanting to copy something straight from a photo!

How did you get started in the wedding industry?

When we relocated from Houston, brides had never seen my type of work in this area. Brides are relieved that they don't have to pick a plain white cake, they can have blue, or marble, or (GASP!) black. Though the majority of my brides ultimately pick a white cake, a good number of mine pick animals, wood logs, or more earthy pieces.

Do you travel for clients? If so, where?

I will travel anywhere for clients as long as I am provided with a proper workspace to achieve your cake. I have done cakes in Houston, Wyoming, Colorado, Montana and Seattle.
