“Taylor and Brad met at a party when they were 17. Taylor describes the first moment she saw Brad as a moment of clarity – she somehow just knew he was going to be someone important to her. In the following weeks, Brad and Taylor
got to know each other at social gatherings and made it official shortly after that. They knew it was going to be tricky as they had different plans for their short- term futures. Brad was going to be attending Queens University in Ontario while Taylor was staying in Calgary to get her teaching degree. Even though the distance and a 4 year timeline was daunting, they decided together to give it a try. Over the next 4 years they spent their evenings and weekends on Facetime and their holiday breaks flying back and forth to each other. Once Brad completed his engineering degree in 2017, he came back home and they were finally able to get their life started – together. They started by buying a beautiful, little bungalow in an older community in Calgary, a house they now call Little Blue, and shortly after they started to fill their house (and hearts) with their 2 dogs. They spend their free time either in the Rocky Mountains hiking, camping and adventuring or cuddled up on their couch at home. Brad describes them as the perfect combination of “extroverted home bodies.” When it finally came time to put a ring on it, Brad planned an epic surprise proposal at Taylor Lake in Banff National Park during Larch season. He had photographers hike up the mountain about an hour before them and they were hiding in the bushes to catch the perfect moment on camera. Taylor and Brad were surrounded by the most amazing scenery of golden yellow trees, snowy mountain peaks reflecting on the lake water, and the softest snowflakes started falling through the sunshine and clouds right as Brad got on his knee. Taylor was surprised by friends and family waiting at Quarry Park in Canmore later that day with champagne, balloons, and all of her favourite snacks. It was the perfect way for her to share their best news, yet! Taylor and Brad had a couple of key criteria for their ideal wedding venue: mountains, lodges for guests and, in a perfect world, a rustic barn to host the reception and dance party. They stumbled upon the beautiful Hillside Lodge & Chalets in their Google search and fell in love the moment they drove up the gravel road through the property. They could see it all: an outdoor reception surrounded by lush greenery, a glistening blue river below and incredible mountain views, a dinner with long, wooden harvest tables to give that beer hall, everyone is family here vibe, and a variety of rustic, log cabins for their friends and family to cozy up in for the weekend.”
