Sweet British Columbia Wedding with their Adorable Dog

“Brennen and I met through fate. He is a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and his first posting out of Depot was my hometown of Kamloops. My Aunt is a member in the force as well, and one day when Brennen’s trainer was away, he got paired up with her. I happened to call her that day while they were riding in the police car together, and he saw my picture pop up on her phone. After that, we dated for only a few weeks before I unofficially moved in. A couple months later we got our first dog together, and only nine short months after meeting, we bought our first house together. While each step felt completely natural at the time, looking back now that timeline seems crazy! Our second date, which was also our second time meeting, was a four day tenting trip in a one person tent at a lake with no cell service, showers, or running water. In our experience, it’s true when they say ‘when you know you know.’ From the moment I met him, I felt like I found home. We got engaged on our third anniversary and married on our fifth anniversary, so the date was very important to us. It actually worked out to be a Monday this year, but the date was so meaningful to us, it didn’t matter. We never swayed from our vision, and as a result, our day was a dream come true. That would be my advice to other couples, do what feels right for you as a couple and make the details of your day be pieces of your story that are meaningful to you two, instead of what you think other people want or expect. For example, our dog Caliber was our ring bearer, we had a cute local ice cream truck come for dessert, and all of the brass candlesticks at our wedding were ones we thrifted from trips we went on during the two years we were engaged. Every time we were in a new town or country, we would make a point to stop at a thrift store and see if we could find any. Family and friends also joined in on the search and added to our collection. I labelled the bottom of each one so we know where each one is from, and my Grandpa polished each one by hand before the wedding. I kept them all, and we plan to use them as decorations for other significant events in our life, such as anniversaries, our baby’s first birthday celebration, and when we host family holidays. Vendors are SO important and really make or break your wedding on the day of. My advice is to go with vendors who you really feel a connection to. It’s in these relationships (some of which I still have to this day), that the most beautiful work grows from. I excitedly purchased every issue of Rocky Mountain Bride that came out while I was engaged and I have kept them all and still have them all in my nightstand. Many of my vendors and inspiration came from your publishings and it would be such a special, full circle moment to see our wedding published and to be able save it with all the other magazines and show our kids one day!”
