“Four years ago we saw each other for the first time in a small airplane hangar, both in the humble beginnings of our careers. As fate would have it, we entered the first chapter of our relationship, getting to know one another as coworkers. This continued to Rachel flying firefighting aircraft, and Joe working as her mechanic. We began our relationship the same way it continues to grow, as a team. Over the course of the next years working together, we shared a series of small, yet incredibly significant moments with one another. Even though each encounter took place in obscure locations throughout the country, were sometimes brief, and of course revolving around a broken airplane, they all shared the same commonalities. That being relentless smiling, an unspoken pride in one another, and an indescribable sense of peace. A feeling only described now as what it’s like to be in the presence of your soulmate. Our time as coworkers ended as Rachel progressed in her career, and became an airline pilot. A year passed apart from one another. And then, in the most unexpected and heartbreaking way, we saw each other again—at the funeral of a dear friend who passed in a plane crash. From that moment we never left each other’s side again. In a beautiful evolvement we started as coworkers, became best friends, began dating, and now more than anything else, look forward to sharing a life together as husband and wife.”
