Surprise Hiking Proposal at Ghost Ranch

February 18, 2023 BY: Bailey

“Jake and I met over 7 years ago at Montana State University. I met Jake’s dog Whiskey on campus while eating my lunch under a tree. I instantly connected with Whiskey as he tried to sneak a bite of my lunch, and I remember seeing Jake somewhere along in the distance and thinking he was very handsome. A few short months later we ended up reconnecting, and decided to meet up for coffee at Cold Smoke, a local coffee shop here in Bozeman. It was history after that, and we instantly started dating. In June of 2021 we took a trip down to Sante Fe, New Mexico. Jake had interned at a photography program during college, so the area has always been a special place for him and he knew I’d love it too. We spent the week admiring the beautiful adobe architecture and the stunning landscapes that New Mexico has to offer. Jake had planned on taking me to one of his favorite hikes, so he could photograph the area. I packed a cute white dress in hopes we could take some really cool photos. As we hiked through the hot desert sun, I remember hearing Jake’s heart pounding in the silence and wondered if he was okay. A few moments later he dropped to his knee and asked me to marry him! I had no idea! He had been planning the proposal for weeks and even booked a photographer to capture the special moment for us. We spent the rest of our New Mexico trip soaking in the newly engaged feeling. Our wedding will be held on August 26th, 2023 in our backyard in Bozeman, Montana.”
