“When Veronica first messaged me, I could already picture it: ‘I’ve been to the salt flats before and always told my boyfriend—now fiancé—how beautiful it is at sunset and how dreamy engagement pictures there would be.’ She and Jeremy were flying in from Chicago to make that vision a reality, and everything about their session turned out just as dreamy as she imagined. From the soft pink tones of their first outfits to the golden light that wrapped around them at sunset, every part of their shoot felt effortless and romantic. But what made this session truly unforgettable was what came next. For her second look, Veronica slipped into a repurposed, chic mini dress made from her mom’s wedding gown. I knew she had planned to wear it—but the sweetest part was that her mom had no idea. Her dad helped keep the surprise under wraps until the photos were printed and ready to reveal. Later, Veronica laid a few prints out on her mom’s kitchen counter, casually saying she wanted to ‘update an old photo’ she had framed. ‘It definitely took a moment to click,’ she told me. She asked where I got the dress—and when I said I got it from her, she realized it was her wedding dress. She burst into (happy!) tears. She couldn’t stop crying because she was so touched that I wanted to do something like that with a piece of her. It felt like we got to share this quiet, beautiful bond as mother and daughter—through the same dress. I even have extra fabric that I hope to use someday, or maybe pass down to our future daughter. Veronica and Jeremy now have their photos printed all over their home, and I truly couldn’t be more honored to have captured this part of their story.
