“Angela and Trent first crossed paths on September 15, 2023, at the Buffalo Chip Saloon in Cave Creek, Arizona. It was Angela’s birthday weekend, and her visiting friend insisted they make the long drive from Chandler to catch the rodeo, which is right up Angela’s alley since she grew up in Iowa and with horses. Meanwhile, Trent was living in Cave Creek and happened to be there the same night. As Angela and her friend were getting ready to head out, Trent tapped her on the shoulder, stopping her just long enough for a spark to catch. What started as a chance encounter at a rodeo quickly became the beginning of something neither of them could have planned, but both are forever grateful for. Trent proposed to Angela on June 10, 2025, during her extended family’s longtime reunion on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina; a tradition she’s been part of since she was a baby. Angela had absolutely NO idea what was coming. Trent had secretly had the ring since March and asked Angela’s parents for their blessing the very same day he picked it up. Wisely, he hid the ring at their house to avoid any accidental discoveries. Because the family often takes ‘Christmas card photos’ when everyone is together, it was the perfect cover to get Angela dressed up, with her hair and nails done, blissfully unaware of the plan unfolding. During the gathering, Angela’s mom gave a heartfelt (and completely normal) speech to her grandparents, thanking them for years of cherished memories. Then Trent stepped in, also not unusual, to thank them for welcoming him into the tradition. But then… he asked if he could help create one more special memory. Angela was still clueless until Trent looked at her, reached out his hand, and said, ‘Angela.’ In that moment, she had an out-of-body experience, the best kind, as he asked her to marry him in front of the family that had loved her for a lifetime.”
