Soft and Memorable Sun Valley I Dos

“Will and I fell in love in Boulder, Colorado shortly after our parents introduced us before attending the University of Colorado. We both grew up in Bellevue, Washington and, while we ran in similar social circles we never knew each other personally. Shortly after arriving at Colorado we began to spend more and more time together. After a few months we were in love, and 10 years later Will proposed. Will proposed at our house in Denver, Colorado. I got home from a long day of teaching and our house was filled with twinkle lights and sunflowers, and he was playing the Lumineers (a song I would later walk down the aisle to) on the turntable. We knew very early on that we wanted to get married in Sun Valley. Will’s family grew up visiting Sun Valley and my family has been traveling there since I was eight. But, most importantly, the mountains are where we feel the most at home. We love the crisp air, hiking, snowy peaks and year-round outdoor activities. For our wedding, we wanted to plan a weekend in Sun Valley with our favorite people in our favorite place, and hopefully inspire our guests to come back in the future to create their own memories. We planned events throughout the week so our friends and family could enjoy a full Sun Valley vacation. One of my favorite events was a girls hike with my bridesmaids a few days before the wedding while the groomsmen played golf. We had our rehearsal dinner at the Sawtooth Botanic Gardens. Keeping with the Sun Valley vibe we wanted to keep our welcome party as casual as possible so we planned a park day near the YMCA. We brought in a food truck, bartender, and photobooks that captured our relationship to share with our guests. We wanted a classic wedding and had no problem foregoing popular trends if it didn’t feel authentic to us. Our goal was to highlight Sun Valley, and the incredible backdrop that River Run Lodge provides. We wanted the florals (curated by Bloom Theory) to feel organic, almost as if they were picked on a nearby hike. The meals we chose also brought a spotlight to our favorite dishes: prime rib, trout, and lots of Washington wine. We worked with Sun Valley Resort and LucaLu & Co to bring our vision to life! Our photographer Meredith Diamond perfectly captured our day. I have known her for almost 10 years and followed her photography career since the beginning. It was a dream come true to hire her for this day. We don’t think we could have picked any other photographer to fully capture our vision. For our wedding day, I spent the morning getting ready with my sisters and bridesmaids at the Sun Valley Lodge, while Will and his groomsmen went trap shooting followed by giant burgers and beers at Grumpy’s, the local burger joint. In the afternoon, we shared our vows privately during our first look. At the ceremony, my mom’s best friend officiated while we said traditional vows and my best friend gave a reading by C.S. Lewis. As Christians, we wanted our ceremony to be religious but also a spiritual mountain experience. Getting married outside the ski lodge was the right choice and it was so incredibly beautiful. My favorite part of the reception was our dance floor. We both love to dance and Will’s family loves a live band. Diamond Empire Band brought the party. The dance floor was full all night! We specifically asked for “pop punk” and our friends loved singing and dancing to Fall Out Boy, Blink-182, and The Killers. We ended the night with a sparkler exit in the rain and sent our guests to the dive bar in town. Our wedding day was perfect. LucaLu, Sun Valley, and Meredith brought our vision to life and we are so glad we were able to share Sun Valley with all of our favorite people.”
