“Melissa and Tyler have been married for 20 years (which is wild, because they still look like newlyweds). Tyler’s birthday also happens to be on Valentine’s Day, so the couple invited all of their friends to Vegas to celebrate, but what Tyler didn’t know was that Melissa had a surprise vow renewal planned for him at the Little White Chapel. Only her sister was in on the secret. I met Melissa in the hotel for her getting-ready photos, and then met Tyler at the hotel bar downstairs for some ‘birthday photos’, which he thought was a strange gift from his wife. He and all of his friends were dressed up for a ‘surprise outing’, which he told me he thought was dinner and a show. She had a party bus pick up the entire group from the Cosmo and bring them to the chapel, where she was waiting in a mini dress and veil. The moment he saw her from the party bus window, it clicked, and from there, it was non-stop fun. He was so surprised. Guests were hooting and hollering, singing along with Elvis, and fully leaning into the chaos of the day. At one point, Melissa’s veil even flew out of her hair mid-ceremony, and somehow, I caught the exact moment it floated through the air with the cherubs on the ceiling perfectly in frame. Afterward, they hit In-N-Out for a quick bite and birthday cake, then wrapped up the evening with cocktails at Velveteen Rabbit. The whole night had a wild, romantic, editorial-meets-reportage feel, and was truly one of the most fun celebrations I’ve ever photographed.”
