Scenic and Intimate Montana Wedding

June 24, 2024 BY: Amy

“We met in 8th and 9th grade when we were on the same swim club and worked together in high school as lifeguards. We were always friends throughout high school (even though Adam had a crush on me all throughout high school). Then I went to college five hours away from our hometown and we didn’t talk to each other until one day my junior year of college I randomly snap chatted him. A couple weeks later I was going back to Minnesota to visit him. He then visited me a few times in college and we started our relationship doing long distance. After college, I moved back to my home state and eventually we moved in together, bought a house and got our little Golden Retriever, River. Adam and I planned a trip for Labor Day weekend in a remote Airbnb near Ely, Minnesota. This was also the weekend we were celebrating five years of dating. The day we got there Adam was very insistent on taking a canoe to a private beach the owner of the Airbnb was telling us about. We ended up taking our dog with us in the canoe (she had never been on a boat before this), and little did I know Adam had the engagement ring in his pocket! On our canoe ride out there our dog decided she wanted to jump overboard in the middle of the lake. I was yelling at Adam to jump in to get her and was confused why he wouldn’t jump in. Luckily he ended up being able to just pull her back up onto the canoe. After this and not being able to find the beach I just wanted to go back and eat dinner. I was annoyed why Adam wanted to keep looking for the beach, I was so hungry! We ended up making it back to our cabin and he popped the question that night. It all made sense. We didn’t have any cell phone service so couldn’t tell our family and friends for a couple days. It was so special to be able to just enjoy our engagement just the two of us! Adam and I had been on a trip to Glacier National Park before and we fell in love with it. When we got engaged we both knew we would love to have a small wedding as both of us hate being the center of attention. We knew if we had our wedding in Minnesota, where we are from, there is no way it would be a small wedding. So when thinking of our options, we both kept going back to how cool it would be to get married in Glacier. We talked with both of our parents about it and they were so supportive. from there, we were set on having it in Glacier. It ended up being not just the best wedding day but the best weekend with our immediate family, our closest friends, and of course our dog River. We truly would not have changed a thing about our special day! Our biggest piece of advice when planning your wedding, is to do exactly what you want and try your best to not let norms, people, and opinions influence your decisions. If you would rather have the small elopement in the mountains, 100% DO IT and don’t worry about what others will think, you won’t regret it!”
