“Although smaller and arguably less well known than other National Parks in Alberta, Waterton Lakes National Park boasts a uniqueness and tranquility that is unparalleled. Nestled in the southwest corner of the province, this territory “where the prairies meet the mountains” is often passed over in winter due to its notoriously temperamental weather. As one of my absolute favourite places on earth I wanted to showcase that you can have both a beautiful, intimate Rocky Mountain Wedding and a unique reception venue to hide away from the cold on your big day. Freddy’s on Main provided the perfect picturesque location for this intimate Valentines elopement shoot. Freddy’s is located in the quaint little town of Cardston, Alberta only 30 min from Waterton Lakes National Park. It is a century old structure that has been renovated into a gorgeous wedding venue with its original exposed brick and beautiful antique windows. I have been dreaming of doing a Valentines Day shoot combining the beauty the holiday with the beauty of the Rocky Mountains. When I think of Valentines Day I associate the holiday with bright red, hot pink, chocolates, teddy bears, roses, and everything heart shaped. Rather than focus on these clichés, I wanted to highlight the main reason for the day – the celebration of love. I also wanted to bring a sense of maturity, elegance and timeless romance to the holiday. For the floral design and styling of this intimate elopement shoot I was inspired by the fruit used to adorn each table. I love the use of fruit in wedding and floral design and couldn’t help but incorporate it into every aspect. The use of moody plums, deep reds, and muted mauves with pops of peach and blush add brightness throughout, and I believe achieved that timeless feeling. Kathlyn Jarvis Designs was able to capture the mood of this shoot with her impeccable eye for detail. The delicate vines, personalized crest, and the touches of gold around the edges of the stationary provided an air of elegance. These themes were carried through to the gorgeous cake by Cakes A Lot, who incorporated delicate gold leaf, pearlized details, and hand painted buttercream florals. The dainty and delicious macarons by Sweet Bakes added a tantalizing flair to the head table and bar. And Spirited Bar Cart’s expertly mixed signature drinks along with the beautiful rental decor provided by Lethbridge Event rentals completed the aesthetic. When I approached our models for this shoot they were so excited to participate as they love Waterton, were married there themselves, and will be celebrating their 10th anniversary this coming fall. What a way to celebrate 10 happy years of marriage. Knowing the couple personally I can attest that they are a beautiful couple inside and out! Makeup By Kristyn was able to take the model’s natural beauty and provide a timeless look without changing who they are. The one thing that lasts in time from your wedding day are the memories made. Having a professional photographer and videographer that you love is so important to any event and the same was true for this shoot. Malorie Reiter Photo flawlessly captured the grace, elegance, light, and love with each photo. Tender, fun, and loving moments were perfectly caught in real time by videographer Stories by Steph. The love shared between our model couple is so tangible – a love each couple aspires to have on their special day and for all the days to come.”
