“Matthew and I have been together since we were 17—high school sweethearts who have grown up side by side, navigating life’s changes and challenges together. Over the years, we often talked about marriage, but we left the details open-ended, wanting the proposal to be a true and genuine surprise. On our ten-year anniversary, during a weekend getaway to Tofino, BC, Matthew made that surprise a reality. We watched the sunset at Black Rock Resort. Matthew, always thoughtful, set up his phone to capture what seemed like a simple memory. But when I turned around, he was down on one knee. It was a perfect and unforgettable moment. The surprise continued the next day with a professional photoshoot that Matthew had arranged, allowing us to cherish our engagement and capture the joy of this milestone. After a two-year engagement, we were ready to start planning our wedding. We envisioned a local summer celebration that would showcase the beauty of Vancouver to our out-of-town guests. The Vancouver Rowing Club, with its heritage charm and stunning waterfront location, quickly became the ideal venue. It offered a perfect blend of character and scenic views, setting the stage for our day. Their partnership with Emelle’s Catering made the planning process seamless, and the delicious buffet they provided was a highlight for our guests. To bring our vision to life, we partnered with Jennifer Rose Weddings & Events. Jennifer was more than just a planner—she was a positive light throughout the process. Her kindness, organization, and clear communication ensured that every detail was executed flawlessly, allowing us to relax and enjoy every moment of our day. Working in the events industry myself at Bespoke Decor, I knew I could trust them with the design. We decided to keep the decor a surprise until the big day, and when we finally saw it, we were left speechless. The team at Bespoke Decor created a minimal chic and modern vibe that perfectly encapsulated our style, transforming the venue into something truly breathtaking. The florals, crafted by Lizi and Fern, were the perfect complement to the decor. Their light, airy arrangements added a touch of softness and elegance, blending seamlessly with the overall aesthetic. Music played a significant role in setting the tone for our day. Ben Dunnill’s live piano and singing performance during the ceremony and cocktail hour created a beautiful and emotional atmosphere, setting the stage for what was to come. As the evening progressed, DJ Yeppa from Modern Events took over, keeping the dance floor alive and continuing the celebration late into the night. Every special moment was captured beautifully by Miranda Anderson Photography, whose keen eye for detail ensured we’ll be able to relive our wedding day for years to come. Cascata Films captured special key moments, creating a video that brings our memories to life each time we watch it. To add an extra exciting and memorable element, Signature Booths set up a photo booth that quickly became a favorite among our guests, providing a lively and interactive experience with a little takehome photo memory. The preparation for the day wouldn’t have been complete without the incredible work of our hair and makeup team—Jaissa Rae, Beauty by Ro, and Hair by Zerina. They made us all feel beautiful and confident, adding to the joy and excitement of the day. The ceremony itself, officiated by Jane from Young Hip and Married, was the perfect balance of personable and heartfelt, capturing the essence of our love story in a way that resonated with everyone present. We couldn’t have dreamt of a more special wedding day—a beautiful celebration of our love, the incredible journey we’ve shared together and surrounded by our friends and family. It was a day filled with love, laughter, and memories that we will cherish forever.”
