“Eric and I have been together for almost 9 years (8 years, 9 months, 2 days to be exact on our wedding day), and I wouldn’t change anything about the amount of time we were together before our wedding. On the morning Eric proposed, we found out my dad’s cancer from a decade before made an unwelcoming reappearance. During our engagement my dad had frequent doctors visits with numerous scans, went through a major surgery, and immunotherapy. The two months prior to our wedding he was battling severe symptoms that were preventing him from leaving the house, and likely preventing him from attending our wedding. His oncologist promised he would be there, and miraculously he felt the best he had the week of our wedding than he had the two months prior. He even surprised us during the ceremony with a heartfelt speech that concluded with him staying true to form and holding up a sign that said “It’s about Fn time!” for all to see. Fast forward to the reception we were able to have our father daughter dance which I will remember forever. Eric and I’s favorite thing to do together is hike and we love spending time in the mountains, which is ironic because we live in Indiana- one of the flattest states in the US. With that said, we knew we didn’t want to get married in Indiana. Colorado was an easy choice for 3 main reasons: 1. The mountains and scenery 2. We could have a unique intimate ceremony and marry ourselves 3. Our dog could be our legal witness. Maroon Bells was an easier choice for the ceremony location because it is stunning and is easily accessible for our loved ones. I was always skeptical when people said their wedding day was the best day ever, but our wedding day was truly the best day.”
