Organic Fall Wedding Day in Durango

“Zak and I were both raised in the south but I was fortunate enough to visit our family’s home in Durango since I was a child spending summers and winters in the San Juan’s. When Zak and I first started dating, I knew I had to bring him on a family winter trip to Durango to show him how incredible this place I had told him about was. Zak had never skied before but picked it up surprisingly fast. One trip to Durango and he was hooked on the San Juan’s. Over the past seven years, we have made numerous summer, fall, and winter trips to Durango and knew we would end up there some day. After graduating college together during the pandemic, we were looking for a new place to call home hoping to escape the southern heat. We were fortunate enough to relocate to Durango and fell even more in love with our new home, the town, the people, the atmosphere. After getting engaged, we started planning. The first big question was “well, where do we want to be married?” We pondered the south, which hometown felt more appropriate. Alabama or Texas. Neither of us had a strong pull to the place besides our loved ones being located there. After living in Durango for some time at this point we came to the decision that this is our home and felt it was the perfect place to start our new life together. Durango has been such an important place for both of us over the years and we wanted to share that with all of our families as well. Also, fall is the most magical time in the mountains. The planning began then to find our venue. After looking around, we knew the Glacier Club in the fall with magnificent vistas was our spot. Planning the wedding was so much fun and we had the A Team to make the process even better. Wedding Day Memories: -Family and “Framily” are the most important things to me so having the most significant people in our lives in our special place was the best way to celebrate our love. Starting off the big day with a relaxing morning at the Deloro Salon in town was such a fun time with all of my bridesmaids. It was extremely fun because my mother and grandmother also were able to join for the girls morning of champagne, stories, hair and makeup. Back at the venue, getting ready with my three maids of honor was so special because we have been best friends since we were two. We have all grown up together and the bond is something I will cherish forever. My mother helped me get dressed and then we had a first look and we all cried a bit! My first look with my father will always be one of my favorites. There’s nothing like a father daughter bond. He’s my favorite. Having a moment to ourselves, Zak and I had a first look and read our private vows in a yellow field of aspens. We are both pretty introverted, so private vows that are just for us seemed so right. -During the ceremony I couldn’t stop smiling from ear to ear… Zak’s father was our officiant. He is so special in both of our lives and having him lead us to that day and marry us was incredible. The venue, the flowers, the band, the planning team all did an incredible job of creating our vision. Dinner, drinks, and dancing with all of our loved ones was the perfect way to conclude our big day! We even rode off on our Rukus (small vespa-ish scooter) with PBR’s (Zak’s favorite beer) tied to the back. A night I will remember forever.”
