“I had came back to our home town to visit and didn’t seem to be leaving, so my mom asked if I wanted to help work an event at her restaurant up at the lake. It was for the Fish Derby, and Zach was participating in the event. At the event, Zach’s dad asked my mom if I was her daughter, and she told Zach to grow a pair and go talk to me. He did not come talk to me, but he did help us stack hundreds of chairs at the end of the night. I guess chivalry isn’t dead! He later slid into the DM’s with a cheesy pick up line. It must have not been that terrible, considering where we are today! The joke now at the restaurant is ‘love at the Fish Derby’ because I never in a million years thought I would have found my person there. Things always happen when you least expect it! We had a trip to the Bahamas booked for April 2023. Zach proposed on the beach, my favorite place. I later found out that while traveling to our destination, Zach had the ring in his carry on at the airport. When we went through TSA security, the guard was looking at the ring case, then looking back at Zach, wondering what it was. Zach told me that he thought he was going to have to get down on one knee in TSA security. Thankfully the guard caught on and we didn’t have to live that moment! Our wedding day was very untraditional, to say the least. The main focus when planning was creating special, and meaningful moments throughout the entire day. We really tried to have intention behind everything that we did. We began the day with a chill morning getting ready, first look with the parents, and then first look with Zach and myself. We did private vows immediately after, to start the day together. We did a private dinner with just our immediate family and a couple friends, followed by our ceremony at a different location, where the rest of our people joined. We were married by our friend who was there the day we met, and our grandfathers signed for us. The rest of the night we didn’t get off the dancefloor, and neither did the rest of the guests (including our 87 year old grandfather who stayed out dancing until 2:30am).
