“What Is an Engagement Session? Engagement sessions are a perfect trial run for working with your photographer. Not only do you get to know each other but you get to see their workflow, become comfortable in front of the camera, and will see their edits/style on pictures of you before your big day! These sessions tend to be more laid back, fun, and the images are typically used for Save the Dates and Announcements. Plus, you have additional photos that you can decorate your reception and home with. During your engagement session you can really show off your personalities, interests, and go to beautiful locations or places that have special meaning to you-like where your first date or proposal took place. For example, with Riley and Walkers engagements we went to her family private property. She shared about all her favorite memories while growing up that she had there with her family and now all the memories she gets to make with Walker there. Walker also proposed to Riley here because he knew how special this place is to her. What do you typically wear to Engagement Sessions? When I got married in 2009, it was VERY popular to have your outfits coordinate with your wedding colors. Now a days we want your outfits to not only make you feel confident but help enhance your natural beauty. When planning your outfits, keep in mind about your location and what will be your background. If you are going to be in the mountains with lots of dark pine trees, more neutral, lighter colors will help you stand out. If you are wanting to be in open space with golden grass, you would want to wear darker, urban colors so you are not washed out and flat. Also, the color palette you choose will play a role in how your final images will edit. More color combinations will result in more vivid coloring while naturals will give a more soft, modern coloring. Most couples typically plan for 1 to 2 outfits; usually one more dressy and the other more nice casual. But if you have something specific in mind, consult with your photographer about more outfits- they usually are more then willing to be accommodating.
