Lush Garden Vow Renewal in New Mexico’s Deserts

“Our vow renewal was a chance to reclaim our story and finally celebrate our love in the way it always deserved to be seen. After six years together, our relationship has grown into something steady, intentional, and rooted in a deep understanding of who we are. Our original wedding experience was painful—we hired a photographer who did not support the LGBTQIA+ community, and the result was a set of out-of-focus photos with none of the portraits or moments we dreamed of having. Not having images of us together outside of the ceremony left us saddened. This vow renewal became our way to heal that hurt and to honor our love openly and proudly. I decided to design our florals in a completely avant-garde style, something bold and expressive, because we are not a traditional couple, and our celebration shouldn’t be either. I wanted the flowers to reflect the beauty of being different, of standing unapologetically in who we are, and of choosing each other again with full intention. The biggest blessing of this experience was finding vendors who truly aligned with our values. Mia from The Sunnyside Events and Audrey from Audrey Darke Photography took the time to understand us—not just as clients, but as people, as a gay couple with a story, and as two women wanting to feel seen and safe in front of the camera. They made us feel comfortable in ways we didn’t even know we needed. They laughed with us, supported us, and created an environment where we could simply exist as ourselves. Somewhere along the way, the vendor-client relationship shifted, and now we’re friends. I can’t imagine not knowing them; their presence in our lives feels meant to be. If we could offer one piece of advice to any couple, it’s this: surround yourselves with vendors who truly align with your values—people who honor your story, support your love, and make you feel celebrated. It changes everything. Our vow renewal wasn’t just a photoshoot or a floral design moment; it was a reminder that love is love in all forms, and it deserves to be held with care, respect, and joy.”
