Laid-Back Spring Wedding Day in Alberta

November 17, 2023 BY: Bailey

“Technically I [Kennidy] proposed while we were on the beach in the Bahamas, I just said “[Screw] it, wanna get married?” and here we are! People thought we were crazy for one, getting married after only a year and a half, and two, eloping on a beach, with no close friends or family around, but it was liberating! We first met while backpacking in Thailand, [I] Kennidy was 22 & Luca was 26 and we met through our mutual scuba diving school, both working to get our diving certifications. Kennidy got Luca’s attention by fake tripping into his arms, while Luca says Kennidy got Luca’s attention by not looking like she was wearing pants… love at first sight? We spent the next 3 months getting to know one another, being pretty inseparable from that very first moment. Though our courses were finishing up, Luca ended up getting a job offer in the Bahamas, and since I was just finishing up my course, I told him all romantic like, that I would follow him wherever he wanted to go. We got to the Bahamas and lucky enough I was also offered a job at the same resort. It has been a journey, as we fought off floods and a cyclone in Thailand, to running away from Hurricane Dorian in 2019, TO THEN, getting stuck in the Bahamas during the pandemic where we were quarantined for 4 months. We were fighting an endless battle on getting into Canada, finally we managed to set up a private flight to get us to at least mainland Florida. Kennidy threw the question at Luca and we decided to elope on Grand Bahama Island, June 1st, 2020. The last 3 years have been anything but easy for us since our marriage, as we try to rebuild our life after covid. Moving across the world twice, from living in Italy [where Luca is from] to finally moving back to Canada. Our lives have been anything but easy these past few years and even though we are already married, this is our “screw you covid” and we are finally taking a piece of ourselves back by having our wedding celebration!”

“As for the style of their day, when Kennidy reached out to me about photography it was clear she wanted all the film and vintage inspired looks incorporated into her style and her photos which is 100% my vibe and made it an absolute blast to work with her. From the silk chartreuse mismatched bridesmaids dresses to the beautifully designed vibrant bouquet, the textures and colors incorporated into their countryside wedding were so hard not to fan girl over. It all complimented each other so well and was executed perfectly. We started the day getting ready at the house onsite. It was full and so much fun. As the girls finished up, Kennidy had planned a teaser first look with Luca where she planned to come out in a Dinosaur costume! It was pretty hilarious and still sweet! After the real first look we went and finished their photos just down the road to get some peace and quiet after a crazy morning. When we came back we met up with the wedding party for more photos before all piling onto the venues transfer school bus to take us down to the ceremony site. It was a hot, windy and overly smokey day but they made the most of it and finally got to have the ceremony they dreamed of with their family and friends present. Following the “I do’s” we all headed back for cocktail hour and the rest of the night was filled with delicious Italian food, lots of laughs and enjoying their favourite people’s company. Kennidy & Luca even had a choreographed first dance with a sped up Salsa twist at the end which kept everyone on their toes and for sure made me jealous of just how perfect and in sync they were! It was a blast. Before the party continued for the night , they included the perfect vintage touch to finish off their day; Kennidy’s parents wedding cake knife from their own wedding in 1991. A close friend made their cake for them to enjoy and enjoy they did, just as well as the rest of the day!”
