“From our first meeting, I knew Chad to be genuine, considerate, and someone I should get to know better. We circled each other in overlapping friend groups for a little while, but things really clicked for me one late night at Chad’s house. He orchestrated a spontaneous dance party for his friends by clearing all the furniture and blaring an LCD Soundsystem album. I would never describe myself as an overly sentimental person, but I knew I wanted this moment to anchor our wedding. Since that night, Chad and I have been together moving from the Carolinas, where we both grew up, to Seattle and then Denver. We knew we wanted to bring our family and friends from both the East & West coasts to our new home state of Colorado. We discovered Buena Vista while camping along the river, which is one of Chad’s favorite pastimes that I have embraced. The Surf Hotel felt like the perfect combination of his appreciation of nature and my passion for interior design. The LCD Soundsystem disco ball was a key source of inspiration and I wanted to juxtapose a little glam next to the nude ombre of flowers and candles, hand dip dyed napkins, and grounding black elements. Layering was paramount to my concept, but a guiding principle is always to create design in service of functionality and personality. Building from the natural beauty of the Colorado landscape and the beautiful bones of the venue, I wanted the design to feel considered, but uncomplicated. More than anything, as the disco ball might suggest, we wanted it to be fun. Like that spontaneous night in Chad’s living room, he took charge of the playlist, and together we created another night I’ll never forget.”
