“Shelby and Kyle’s story began in high school, and over the years, it has grown deeper, funnier, and unmistakably theirs. From shy hallway glances to building a life full of adventures, inside jokes, trips around the world, and a very spoiled puppy named Rufus, they have truly grown up together. In 2023, they took their first trip to Kelowna, British Columbia, and quickly fell in love with it. Between the mountains, the lake, the wineries, and the laid-back vibe, it just felt like their kind of place. On the first full day of the trip, Kyle said he wanted a new LinkedIn headshot so Shelby would be snapping pictures of him throughout the day. Later, during golden hour back at their rental, he asked for a few more photos and then suggested they take a couple together. Then, secretly, he hit record and proposed instead. It was private, simple, and perfect. That night was filled with wine, pizza, and laughter about the speech Kyle thoughtfully prepared but completely forgot in the moment, and how he managed to keep it a surprise. When it came time to pick a wedding location, they looked at all the typical destination wedding spots, but nothing really felt right. Eventually, they realized the perfect spot had been right under their noses all along, Kelowna, where they got engaged and the first place they ever seriously talked about living one day. Plus, none of their friends or family had been there before, making it the perfect excuse to bring everyone to experience what they loved about the city. Shelby and Kyle took their time planning the day, enjoying a long engagement that gave them space to be present in that chapter and avoid the pressure of rushing. Their wedding was relaxed and intentionally unstructured, centered around quality time, good food, and letting the day unfold naturally. They held both their ceremony and reception at La Casa Resort. The ceremony took place on the mountainside overlooking Lake Okanagan, with nothing but two stunning white roses, hydrangeas, a baby’s breath arch pillars, and the view. Nothing else was needed. Cocktail hour and dinner were on the wraparound balcony of the La Casa mansion, strung with lights and buzzing with conversation. Shelby and Kyle skipped the traditional head table and set a long table for everyone. They wanted to be right in the middle of the stories, the laughs, and every joke being told. The weather held out all day, with just a bit of rain right around dessert, which ended up being perfect timing. Everyone moved inside, the dance floor opened up, and the night kicked off. With the garage-style doors wide open to the fresh air and views, the vibe stayed exactly where it needed to be. One of their favorite memories came after the cake cutting, when they randomly decided to bring the cake to bed. No plan, no Pinterest inspiration, just a ‘should we?’ moment that turned into some of their favorite photos.”
