Gorgeous Western Wedding in Telluride with Couple’s Three Dogs

January 29, 2024 BY: Bailey

“I took my first trip to Telluride to visit my godmother in August of 2003 and after that I was hooked. From then on I would visit her in Telluride every summer for a few weeks just hiking and exploring together. My last summer with her was in July of 2013. We had spent the 4th of July together in Telluride watching the parade in this magical little mountain town. She would pass away unexpectedly just 2 weeks later at the age of just 68. Her passing was devastating and I wouldn’t return to Telluride until 2018 when I drove cross country with two friends and my dog to once again feel the magic of this special place. I could feel my godmothers spirit in the mountains and I felt close to her again on my return to the mountains. After that visit I would continue to return each year, sometimes multiple times a year to ski and hike and play in the mountains. I convinced my boyfriend at the time, now husband to take a cross country trip to Telluride in March of 2021 to ski. He unfortunately returned home with a torn meniscus, while I returned with a diamond ring. Immediately I knew I needed to get married in Telluride because it is the place where I feel the closest to my godmother and the place that I feel her spirit the most. So we chose a date, 9.23.23, 914 days away to ensure that the world would hopefully be in a better place by then. As I began to plan I wanted the focus of our wedding to be on the beauty of the mountains and Telluride. I wanted our wedding to feel rustic, natural and western. I wanted our guests to feel all of the magic this tiny town holds and I wanted them to know the reason why Telluride had been chosen for our destination wedding. I wanted our guests to feel special and loved the same way that my godmother made everyone around her feel. Our 2.5 year long engagement allowed me to include special touches- I was able to hand paint each guest an ornament with various Telluride scenery as wedding favors.”
