Endearing Lakeside Backyard Wedding

“There is something truly special about a backyard wedding and the idea that you can visit the exact spot where you exchanged vows as frequently as you’d like makes it feel so unique and indescribably personal. That intimacy and personalization is exactly what Iman and Tom described the first time we met, and something they never once wavered on. This backyard wedding on the lake in Summerland, British Columbia was intimate and personal in every possible way. Guests arrived through the driveway of the bride’s family’s summer home, which had been completely relandscaped to suit the event, and mingled with the couple before the ceremony. Florals by the Wild Bunch (where the bride used to work!) were a mix of flowers grown at a local farm in Kelowna, grasses from the home, and hydrangeas that had been picked on the property and dried the previous year. As the bride and groom read their personalized vows to each other, there wasn’t a dry eye on the beach – especially the groom. Following the ceremony guests made their way across the beach to a neighbouring backyard and the bride and groom moved back to the house for a quiet and private registry signing with their parents. The vibes, as they say, were immaculate. The personal touches continued into cocktail hour and the reception. The cocktail hour was anchored by a round charcuterie table that encouraged guests to mingle. As they moved into the tidewater tent for a long table reception, the tables were covered with candle sticks made by the groom, napkins made by his mom and transported from Ireland, pictures of the bride and groom at ages that matched the table numbers, and more flowers arranged by a fleet of friends. Every speech was better than the last, a perfect combination of comedy and sincerity, and the dance floor was full until the end of the night. The groom is Irish, which meant that his entire family and many friends travelled from Ireland, and the bride’s family is truly international with families coming from all over Europe and North America. A destination wedding of over 90 people is a true testament to the immense love that the couple have for each other and that of their community. The whole day was so filled with love and joy and laughter that there isn’t a picture without someone laughing (or crying from laughter). With a couple this great, you can’t help but become friends and go above and beyond for them. They’re kind, gracious, understanding, and just fun to be around. You could see that every single vendor felt that way, and it created a team that had a singular vision that worked together beautifully. The day went off seamlessly, and every guest and vendor felt amazing at the end of the night. In Iman + Tom’s own words: “from our perspective, our wedding was perfect and filled with our friends and family who travelled from all over the world. We loved our vendors too, they made it all so great. Every aspect felt extremely personal to us and a real reflection of us as a couple.”
