“Darren and Leslie met in undergrad nearly 8 years ago. Darren has been planning to propose to Leslie for over a year. The cover story would involve 4 of his best friends, including me, the photographer. The cover story: I ask the two of them to do a couples shoot for my portfolio. Marcus and Karina will be there to help with getting some BTS footage for my social media. His other best friend is there just to hang out. Queen Elizabeth park has a lot of meaning for the two of them. The little balcony that’s tucked away by the bridge and overlooks the entire park is especially meaningful to them, and that’s where Darren had his heart set on proposing to Leslie. Right when Darren was about to propose, Karina and Marcus went up to Leslie to distract her with some inspo photos that I had saved on my phone. This is when Hong handed over the ring to Darren. Leslie had no idea this was happening and was completely surprised when he proposed! It was incredibly special to be a part of such an emotional and loving proposal. I was crying behind the camera and am so glad I managed to get the moment captured (and in focus)!”
