Intimate Disco Beach Wedding in Tofino

April 4, 2024 BY: Amy

“Our story began as kids-when we were 9 or 10. Jake describes young Robyn as ‘cute and keen for anything’ while Robyn remembers Jake mostly being off riding mountain bikes, otherwise keeping to himself and being ‘too cool for anyone not hitting road gaps’. After more than 10 years of friendship, we agreed to become a couple, over the phone, from opposite sides of the country- we just had a feeling this was the real deal. We had a similar intuition about getting married in Tofino- we have spent really special time there and are always drawn back by the magic of the Peninsula. We knew right away how meaningful it would be if all our loved ones joined us there for an epic party. Coady and the staff at Mackenzie Beach Resort went above and beyond for us from our first phone call, and we are so grateful to him and his team for bringing our disco beach party vision to life. Mike Jennings with Tofino Light and Sound was also an absolute hero- one of the highlights of our wedding was the incredible stage and dance floor that he created for us. Our photographer Cristina is so talented–particularly in her film photography–and we felt so fortunate to work with her. Once we got to planning, we quickly agreed that the themes of the weekend would be ‘fun’ and ‘comfortable for everyone’. We were very happy with our decision to have a quick rehearsal earlier in the week, leaving Friday free for us to hang out at the beach and host a picnic to share our favourite Tacofino tacos and diablo cookies with all of our guests. The weather could not have cooperated more fully, and we loved getting to surf, run and sauna the morning of our wedding. Even the bioluminescence that showed up for a late night dip made us feel like Mother Nature was in our corner that weekend. We were so blown away by the support of our friends and family who showed up for us in the season of our engagement. The celebration on the Island was just the icing on the (carrot) cupcake. While the weekend itself went by so fast, the care and support we felt from everyone who walked us into our next chapter as husband and wife—then sang at us all night long— still have us feeling all the love. We are so lucky!”
