“When we started planning our wedding, two words that kept coming to our hearts were ‘intimate and ‘intentional’. It was very important to us that the entire process felt true to us as a couple, and that we weren’t doing things because we were ‘supposed to’. Since I was planning my own wedding, I took a lot of inspiration from the things that we love. Europe, long dinner parties, bright colors, art, watercolors… I knew we had found the right photographer when I showed her my Pinterest board full of sculptures, long table settings, and vintage photographs (nothing wedding related) and she could see my vision! When we finally sat down and thought about our dream day, all we wanted was to spend quality time with our favorite people and share a slow meal around one table, one that would be filled with stories, laughter, and memories. To stay true to our desire to keep things intimate, we had only immediate family, grandparents, and a few select friends attend. We only 30 guests. It was truly the best decision we could have made. Since we were keeping things so small, it was even more important to me that intention shined through the entire day. From hand watercoloring each invitation suite, crafting menus for each place setting, using vintage tableware from our mothers and watercolors painted by my great grandfather, I wanted each piece of our wedding to tell a story. Our story. I think there’s a lot of pressure during wedding planning (especially on us brides) that we need to go above and beyond. That we have to invite everyone, that we have to do what’s ‘trending’ or popular, or maybe even feel pressure to spend more money than we want for the sake of ‘having the perfect wedding’. My advice would be to block out all of that, and stay true to who you are as a couple. Focus on what you love and who you love, and you’ll find that your wedding will be the most magical day of your life.”
