“The advice we received repeatedly when planning our wedding was to ‘do things for you, because this is your special day.’ While this is well intentioned advice for many couples, it didn’t fully resonate with us. Many of our guests would be traveling for our wedding and we’ve been to countless weddings where we traveled to the wedding, danced with the happy couple for a moment, and traveled back. While fun and exciting to see loved ones get married, we wanted our wedding to be about connection and celebration of all of the people who shaped us, both as individuals and as a couple. Leading up to our wedding, we planned and hosted two social events to introduce friends who had never met before, so they’d have prior connections to people they’d be sitting with. The weekend of our wedding, we kicked off the celebration with a relaxed cook out at a shelter on Lake Estes park that anyone could swing by, grab food, and say hello. That evening, we had an intimate rehearsal dinner, where we opened up the floor for anyone who felt so inclined to give toasts. It was an evening full of laughter and tears, fully resonating with the intentionality we had hoped the wedding weekend would reflect. On the day of our wedding, it almost felt like time slowed down. Each moment, whether it was walking down the aisle or sitting back and watching everyone engage with each other over dinner, felt like the culmination of so many moments throughout our relationship. All of the effort that went into planning felt more than worth it, to see everyone able to grab a dessert despite their dietary restrictions, get a custom watercolor portrait to take home as a wedding favor, ogle at the gorgeous views, and finally, to leave it all out on the dance floor. The day after the wedding we had a farewell brunch, where people could swing by, grab a bite to eat, and reminisce together about the weekend. As the wedding celebrations drew to a close, we had an overwhelming sense of joy knowing that the connections forged leading up to and during our wedding weren’t for just a single day of celebration, but would endure for the rest of our lives.”
