After a month of dating, their relationship became long-distance as John moved to Washington D.C. for grad school and Katie studied abroad in Milan, Italy. They were finally reunited in Washington D.C when Katie moved after graduation. Katie and John love foraging together, so on August 20, 2023, they went on a picnic in one of their favorite spots, Theodore Roosevelt Island in Washington D.C. John proposed to Katie with a basket he made using plants they had foraged together.”
