“Après Ever After” at Purgatory Ski Resort

“Sitting around the fire with our closest friends and family as the music shut off and the bar was calling for the last round, I couldn’t help but bask in the joy of marrying my best friend. The morning of Friday, September 22nd, was not an ordinary morning. The sun shined brighter, and the birds chirped louder. The bridal party and family poured into our room because it was our wedding day! Everyone in the room was quietly buzzing, keeping the atmosphere peaceful and preparing for the ceremony and party to follow. As it was time to get into our wedding attire, my best friend, Kyleia, gifted me my Somethings: blue slippers, a new shall, a borrowed sorority pin from which we met, and an old hairpin from a set her great-grandmother had given her that had only been gifted to women in their bloodline. Chris and I reconvened a few hours later for a first look at our ceremony site. It was a perfect opportunity to share a few good luck kisses and swigs from his flask before officially tying the knot! I hid in the trees while I watched our family and friends arrive for the ceremony. Emotion flooded me as I considered that this would likely be the only time in my life that all these loved ones were in the same place at the same time. The ceremony was sweetly officiated by Chris’s brother, Nick, and serenated by instrumentals from Taylor Swift. Chris and I exchanged handwritten vows before we raced down the aisle, hand in hand, man and wife, and were showered in colorful floral confetti. As “I’m With You” by Vance Joy played, Chris and I entered Purgy’s and spun right into our first dance. Our first dance was followed by an anniversary dance, in which Chris’s grandparents, David and Lyn, stood last. We knew they would be our longest-married couple and used Lyn’s song choice for the anniversary dance. They never had a wedding, so this was our way of giving them a first dance. Our reception was a party like I have never seen! The dance floor teemed with family and friends, each grinning ear to ear. It wasn’t before long when the shot ski got pulled out, and a limbo competition was underway. We polished off countless bottles of champagne and twirled to countless songs until it was time to unwind by the fire.”
