“I’ve always dreamed of having a winter wedding. Nothing is prettier in the winter than a fresh blanket of snow. When Thomas and I got engaged, he had one request: ‘let’s get married before the end of the year.’ It was quite the request, given it was March 25th when he proposed. It took about a month to find the perfect venue with an available date, which happened to be December 29th. It was just in time to get married before the end of the year and, even better, it fell during the winter—my favorite and the most magical time of the year. I knew that we might not have a snowy wedding, given that we were getting married in the foothills. The week leading up to the wedding, it snowed in Colorado. I felt like a little kid at Christmas the whole week, running to the window to see how much it had snowed overnight. We had a white Christmas and, of course, had to drive through the venue to check out the ceremony spot to see if it had too much snow! Until the morning of the wedding, we hadn’t decided if it would work to be married outside, mostly due to the mud from the sunny day and the fact that we had to shovel the eight inches of snow for our 200 guests, 50% of whom were traveling from Texas. Fortunately, my brother and my wonderful vendors made it happen and shoveled paths for the ceremony. It was the most beautiful, sunny winter day with a perfect blanket covering the ranch. I got my dream day. The day was so beautiful that I was able to take all of our first look and wedding photos without needing a coat. By the time of the ceremony, around 3:00 in the afternoon, the golden sun shone down on the field and began to sneak behind the mountains. From our guests’ perspective, the sun peaked behind the mountains just as my dad gave me away. By then, it had started to get cold. I remember looking at each other, holding our shivering hands together, and taking a mental snapshot. The sun was golden on the hill behind us, and I was marrying the love of my life. The cold made the moment that much more memorable. No photo can truly capture how magical the day was. We could not have been blessed with a more stunning Colorado winter day.”
