Winter Wonderland Aspen Engagement

Joonas and I met when we were both living in San Jose, California. It was Halloween weekend 2017, and I was dressed as Frankenstein with full green makeup and black spray painted hair. For some reason I caught Joonas’s eye at a bar. We talked all night (well mostly I talked and he listened) and at the end of the night he got my phone number.

My favorite part about Joonas is that he’s only lived in the United States since 2015, and he’s only spoken English since then as well. The reason I love this is because I got to show him all the best US holiday traditions. At Halloween he carved his first pumpkin with me as we watched Hocus Pocus, he had his first Thanksgiving dinner with my family and he got his first ever stocking on our first Christmas morning together. We’ve shared a lot of his American “firsts” together and just a few months later he took me to his home country, Finland! I love learning new things from him and exploring the world with him.

Just 14 months after we met he proposed. Planning our wedding was a dream and we were extremely excited to see Aspen for the first time. We stayed in the Little Nell and had the most perfect 5 AM engagement photo session. I’m a Minnesota girl and he being from Finland we both LOVE the snow and cold weather. Colorado is the perfect place for us to start our next chapter and even though our beautifully planned wedding had to be postponed, I know our new plan will be just as special.
