One of the first decisions you will encounter when planning your wedding is whether or not you should hire a wedding planner. So, we asked the experts for you!

Is it worth the cost?

Weddings are expensive! We get it. In fact, couples spend an average of $33,000 on their big day. And, the average cost of a day-of-coordinator is $1,500 compared to $1,500-$10,000 for a full-service planner. 

So why spend money on something you can plan yourself?

The venue has a coordinator. Do I still need a wedding planner?

If you already have your dream venue picked out and it includes a day-of-coordinator, wedding planner Emma McCormick explains why you may still want to hire a full-service wedding planner.

"Definitely, yes. We get asked this question often and our response is always, yes. The venue coordinator’s job is first and foremost to be a representative of the venue, while a wedding planner works exclusively as an advocate for you, with your best interests in mind. The venue’s coordinator will already have in their repertoire how to design and execute a wedding in the space, however, a wedding planner will provide a collection of creative and original ideas for how you can transform the venue into something completely customized and unique for you. Most importantly, your wedding planner will be motivated to ensure that all the little details to create your memorable day are handled with care, as their brand is attached to your wedding and their company’s reputation is on the line." - Emma McCormick

However, not all venues come with this perk. And, while having a day-of-coordinator may not seem necessary at first, enlisting your family and friends is a big task and may make the day a little less enjoyable for them. If your venue doesn't come with a day-of-coordinator, Payton from Promise Event Planners explains why hiring a wedding planner in this scenario is a definite yes.
