Megan and Mike, Los Angeles natives, have this amazing love story of growing up nearby but not dating until college. Once together, they moved all over the country for Mike to serve in the Air Force. Megan’s eye for design, warmth and trust in me made planning with them a dream. From the rich table decor, the breathtaking real flowers on her veil, the creative appetizer choices, each as a tribute to their parent’s heritage, the Girl Gang jackets designed by the bridesmaids, the karaoke version of “If you like pina coladas” as their first dance song, and the closeness of their families. This was a special wedding.

My birthday landed on a Friday and when I got off work, Mike was outside with bags packed and a weekend trip planned to our favorite nearby getaway, Birmingham. When we got to the hotel, I was too excited to wait for my present so I opened it there with just us in the room. It was the Obama Portrait book (something I’ve wanted FOREVER) and I was so excited I remember kicking my legs up and squeezing the book to my chest. Then, Mike tells me to open the book. As I do, he gets down on one knee and inside the book he had cut out the top right corner of each page, and glued the ring box inside of it. On the first page he wrote: “I knew I’d need the help of the only man you love as much as me. Marry me?”
