The Couple

Inspiration

This gorgeous couple was married at just 19, and sadly, with the demands of a military career and a baby on the way, they weren’t able to treat themselves to a traditional wedding or any of the formalities. With their eyes set on their future together, they resigned themselves to a blowout party and vow renewal for their 10th anniversary, only to have their hopes flatlined by the pandemic and an unexpected Army transfer from sunny, warm Florida to the Rocky Mountain region of Colorado. New to the state as well, we met with the intent to have them model for us as we photographed a recently constructed venue. Once we heard their story, it became clear that this couldn’t be just a typical styled shoot. This would be the wedding the couple never had, complete with the cake, the flowers, the gown, and a collection of memorable moments that they weren’t able to have the first time around. Winter in Colorado proved to be just that, as we were greeted at the venue with a fresh blanket of beautiful snow. Bonnie Blue’s is a quaint location, set in the Colorado countryside, with a mix of industrial farmhouse features and a stunning bridal cottage where we staged the first look. The bride was breathtaking in her lace gown with a plunging v-neck adding a hint of sexy to the ethereal dress. Her long hair was beautifully woven with a jeweled vine and her makeup kept soft and slightly smoky, both done by the talented Sonya Yslas of ElèPosh. To contrast the wintery white backdrop, we chose a vibrant jewel-toned palette for the decor, florals, and even the groom’s dapper royal blue jacket with black lapels. We loved how the bright florals gave a nod to the couple’s former Florida home, with the ferns combining an element of woodland and tropical at the same time. This table was a sight to behold with the lux tassel-trimmed blue velvet runner, and the mixed floral details in the tableware complimenting the bold blooms. Privè Event Design outdid themselves with a mix of roses, delphinium, ranunculus, tulips, and thistle, creating this explosion of color that contrasted beautifully against the bare farmhouse table provided by Colorado Party Rentals. Throughout the day, it was hard to take our eyes off these two as they joked, laughed, and danced together. Had we not known better, we would have sworn it was their actual wedding day as we witnessed the love between them and the extent to which they were truly enjoying each other and this moment. Despite the snowy exterior, the warmth we felt as we spent time with these two was unmistakable and we love that we were able to gift them with a day that was all their own.
