Urban Downtown Wedding at The Oxford Hotel

We both live in Denver, but neither of us are from here originally so we had a lot of family and friends traveling from out of town to attend (our wedding), and it was important to us to choose a location that was convenient for all of our guests who were already traveling so far to come to Denver. We fell in love with The Oxford Hotel, it has a ton of character and it’s in a prime location in downtown Denver, just a block or so from Union Station. Plus it was located in the neighborhood we lived in, so that felt special too. We also loved how walkable and convenient it would be for our guests, plus there were spaces for both the ceremony and the reception so we wouldn’t need to arrange any special transportation. In terms of vision/style, the look we were going for was clean, elegant and classic. It felt like the spaces and the overall ‘feel’ of the hotel were definitely in line with that vision.

The most important things to us were having a ceremony that felt authentic and true to who we are and then having a reception that was a blast! The band we chose was perfect for this – we knew one of the members of the band and had seen them play in our neighborhood bar plenty of times, so we knew they were the right fit for our reception. There were certain traditions that weren’t important to us that we chose to skip (cutting the cake together, tossing the bouquet). The ceremony space was kind of a blank canvas, so we put in some extra effort into the decorations with flowers, candles and the arch.

Our ceremony was absolutely perfect. A good friend of ours was the officiant and he did such a good job with the content of the ceremony, it was heartfelt, at times humorous, and it felt very authentic and genuine to who we are as people – afterwards a few guests said it was very “us” and I definitely agree. I did a first dance with my grandfather, who had been talking about and looking forward to that moment for just about the last 30 years – I don’t think there was a dry eye to be found. The best man knocked it out of the park with his speech, and the band and the playlist we collaborated on was super fun. They played mainly 90s and classic rock cover songs that everyone knew sang along to. At one point I looked around not a single person was sitting down, everyone was on the dance floor belting it out. Everyone was jumping up and down and dancing so hard I thought the floor was going to give out.

Advice from the bride: Don’t sweat the small stuff! At end of the day, the guests aren’t going to care what color the napkins were.
