Tropical Honeymoon Session at Coco Plum Resort in Belize
July 16, 2022

The first trip as a married couple is one you will never forget. Sarah and Taylor jetted off to
Coco Plum Resort in Belize after their wedding and took their wedding photographer along to capture their first moments together as husband and wife! We connected with the couple to share a little more about their experience and why they chose to bring along a professional photographer and not just their iPhones.
1. Why did you hire a photographer for your honeymoon?
We loved the idea of having beautiful, professional pictures documenting our first trip together as husband and wife. Kelly was able to perfectly capture the island and culture of Belize during our session which allowed us to relax phone-free and not stress about capturing the vacation ourselves.
2. Tell us about your honeymoon!
After the stress of wedding planning, we knew we wanted to relax on a secluded, beautiful tropical beach. We decided on Coco Plum Resort in Belize and cannot recommend it more! Coco Plum is a remote island with beachside bungalows, amazing hospitality, plenty of amenities and excursions, and delicious food and drinks. With only a handful of bungalows on the entire island, it felt like we had the place to ourselves. It was the perfect getaway and truly felt like paradise!
3. Why did you choose the honeymoon location?
My husband and I were both set on a tropical honeymoon where it could be as relaxing or adventurous as we wanted. Coco Plum offered the perfect mixture of relaxation and activities like snorkeling, kayaking, mainland adventures, and massages. Traveling to the island from Texas was seamless and convenient which was a huge plus.
4. What hotels did you stay at?
Coco Plum is a private island with 18 standalone beachfront cabanas. We spent our week-long honeymoon on the island.
5. Top 3 activities:
Our most memorable activity from our honeymoon was the day we went deep-sea fishing. We caught barracuda which was no small feat and red snapper. The on-island chef made the most delicious meal out of the fish we caught. Just a friendly reminder to not skimp on the sunscreen because the Belizean sun on the open water did a number on us. We also enjoyed snorkeling and getting to see all the native fish and coral reefs. Couple massages are also a must!
6. Outfit details:
Both swimsuits pictured are from L Space which is a personal favorite of mine. My dress is from Show Me Your Mumu and was the perfect breezy, tropical look for the shoot.
7. Packing tips:
In order to get to the island, we took two flights and a boat ride so I would definitely suggest traveling with carry-ons only to minimize travel stress. Did I mention pack plenty of sunscreen? We got scorched by the sun on our deep sea fishing trip. We left for our honeymoon the very next morning and if we were to do it over again, I would advise taking a day to say goodbye to family, pack, and regroup before traveling. While all were fun events, it was a lot back-to-back.
Words from the Professional, Photographer Kelly Hornberger:
For me, I always say if you can afford to hire a photographer for your honeymoon, it’s a no-brainer! Mainly because selfies, photo bomber tourists, well-meaning strangers taking your photo but getting their thumb in the picture of cutting off your heads, etc, don’t do justice to where you are and what you’re getting to do and all the amazing memories! Personally, my husband & I just have pictures from a phone that we sat on a rock and used the timer for, from our amazing honeymoon in Greece, and I would’ve loved something much more beautiful & worthy of hanging on a wall!
