Garrison & Eric were married in the mountains of Durango, CO at Purgatory Mountain Resort. They are both currently engineers in Santa Fe and that is where their love story began. Eric is originally from the west coast and Garrison is from the east coast, but one of their favorite places to explore together is Durango, CO. When they started planning their destination wedding they knew that we wanted to bring their closest family and friends from across the country to Colorado to celebrate their special day!
They had no idea a few weeks leading up to their wedding, the 416 fire would begin in the Durango mountains and affect their wedding day. They had originally planned their wedding to be on the top of the mountains, but sadly the fire moved quickly and engulfed the area, affecting their wedding venue. Thankfully Purgatory has a few different ceremony locations and was able to give them a few backup options. We really saw the impact the fire was having on the area at Garrison & Eric’s wedding rehearsal the day before. The mountains were covered with smoke and it was actually raining ash everywhere, which I had never personally experienced before. Even though all of the stress, Garrison & Eric remained positive and knew they were still going to say “I Do” no matter what. The day of their wedding arrived and the winds were in our favor! The wind blew the smoke and ash away from the venue and it ended up being a gorgeous day!
Garrison & Eric were still able to have their dream wedding in the mountains of Durango and thankfully the fire stayed far enough away on their wedding day! It had a big impact on their day and we knew we had to take a few of their portraits where you can actually see smoke from the fire in the background. And lieu of favors this sweet couple, donated, in their guest’s honor, to the Community Emergency Relief fund that supported those affected by the 416 fire.
