With elopements becoming more common, I wanted to show couples an option for a magical winter wonderland location. Abraham lake sits at the edge of the Rocky Mountains and is a popular area for camping and hiking in the summer. In winter people go to view the unique methane bubbles that freeze into the ice. I wanted to create a romantic, rustic whimsical setting in this unique location, while showcasing the mountains and ice. The gold, dusty blues, and pinks popped so beautifully against the snow, and I was excited that some amazing central Alberta vendors were happy to help create this vision with me. The morning of, we met at the Cow Lake Cabins Airbnb which was just outside of Rocky Mountain House. The cabin and surrounding buildings fit in perfectly with the rustic theme I was going for. After the couple was ready, we headed out to Abraham Lake for the shoot. Due to the 100 km/hr winds, we had to go to my back up location in a more sheltered area. It’s good to be aware of the weather conditions and to be prepared with an alternate location as the weather at the lake is often very windy! The real couple picked the day of the shoot to be on their six month wedding anniversary. Love letters were shared and real emotions felt. It was so special to be able to create some magic with the other vendors and be a part of celebrating Ian and Calista’s love story!
